Terrorism: A clash of civilisations?

Mumbai attack shook India once again. In the past it has often been the have nots who are at the receiving end of the scourge of terrorism. Whether it’s the blast in Delhi’s Mehrauli on Sept ’08 or the nine explosions in Bangalore on June ’08 or the eight blasts in Jaipur that left 65 dead in May upper middle class are the least affected ones. However, this time terrorists levelled the rich and the poor. Whether because the battle was taken right into the lives of the rich and powerful or because of the high number of casualties or because it was an attack on India’s symbol of pride and prosperity the assault has elicited mass anger primarily directed towards Pakistan. Public’s memory is short, they say. Time and time again terrorists have taken so many lives. Media reports say, “President condemns; PM announces compensation; Brave citizens move on with their normal lives”. It’s not quite sure whether it’s to make bread and butter they move out or whether to tell the terrorists that gu

Heaven

New Testament scholar and Bishop of Durham, N. T. Wright talks about life after "life-after-death" and heaven not being our ultimate destiny. What do you say? http://www.time.com/time/world/article/0,8599,1710844,00.html

Evolution and Creation

Evolution and/or Creation has generated so much of discussion. Whether we like or not the controversy is likely to continue for some more time. Textbooks on Biology are filled with ideas undergirded by the theory of evolution. Christians take on the issue has been diverse. Some see evolution as opposed to the teaching of the Bible underscored in Genesis 1-2. Others see it differently. Young Earth Creationists interpret the Genesis text ‘literally’, and concluded that God created the heavens and the earth some 6,000 to 10,000 years back. Ministries like Answers in Genesis, Creation Ministries International and Creation Science Research etc are proponents of this view. For them theory of evolution is not true and it “propagates an anti-biblical religion”. ( Refuting Evolution , Jonathan Sarfati). Others like Phillip Johnson, William Dembski, Michael Behe, Lee Strobel et al have a different take. Intelligent Design movement’s, perhaps, most able proponent Phillip Johnson in his cha

Christians and Violence

On Saturday 23 August the Hindu leader Swami Laxmanananda and four of his associates were assassinated Kandhamal district, Orissa. Saraswati, who was a senior figure in the VHP (Vishwa Hindu Parishad), strongly opposed the conversion of Hindus to Christianity. The police and state officials have blamed the attack on suspected Maoist rebels, and Christian leaders in India have clearly condemned it. The Maoist guerillas later on September 9 offifically claimed responsibility for the killing. After the killing of Swami Laxmanananda, the VHP called for a statewide shutdown on August 25. The same day rioters burnt a Christian orphanage where an employee was burnt alive. Since then some 50 people have been killed and over thousand of houses and hundreds of churches set on fire. Thousands of people are now living in relief camp as they are scared to return home. Things get worse as the violence spread to other states. Christians in Madhya Pradesh and Karnataka felt the heat of the hindu ext

Welcome to Delhi-UESI

UESI's doctrinal basis shall be the fundamental, historic truths of Christianity including: 1. The unity of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit in the Godhead. 2. The sovereignty of God in creation, revelation, redemption and final judgment. 3. The divine inspiration and infallibility of Holy Scripture as originally given, and its supreme authority in all matters of faith and conduct. 4. The universal sinfulness and guilt of human nature since the Fall, rendering man subject to God's wrath and condemnation. 5. Redemption from the guilt, penalty, and power of sin only through the sacrificial death of Jesus Christ, the incarnate Son of God. 6. The resurrection of Jesus from the dead. 7. The necessity of the work of the Holy Spirit to make the death of Christ effective to the individual sinner, granting him repentance toward G
